Kim Schmitz, born in Germany in 1974, is an entrepreneur and computer scientist best known as the founder of the website Megaupload. In the Internet world is better known by its nickname, Kim Dotcom. Years before becoming a businessman was charged and convicted of various crimes, including hacking, credit card fraud, embezzlement, among others.
In 1994, Kim Dotcom founded a computer security company called DataProtect. Six years later, in 2000, it was acquired by the firm TÜV Rheinland, but ended up breaking the following year.
A couple of years before selling his company in 1998, Kim was sentenced for two years because of offenses and handling stolen goods also hacking.
In 2001, when he was in total freedom, decided to invest money and made use of a special credit of Monkey AG. The same should be paid by Kimvestor, which led to both companies to ruin. The following year, Kim was deported to Germany from Thailand had made an abuse of information, why was convicted again and had to pay an expensive fine.
Three years later, in March 2005, Kim Dotcom founded the site that would lead to fame: Megaupload. As we know, Megaupload was a file hosting site that was to become the most visited site in the world downloads and even managed to get a small percentage of the world's Internet traffic at its best. The service had a way free and premium mode, but was closed in early 2012 and Kim Dotcom along with some of his employees were arrested, but was released a few weeks. To date, the cause is still in trial.
Despite this, it appears that Kim does not plan to stop and has released the new version of its web site, now known simply as Mega, which is destined to become the new empire of downloads.
