The CD turns 30

It was around 1979 when Sony and Phillips began working on what would be the first CDs or CDs. Obviously we are talking about a world very different from today where there was no Internet or video games like Super Mario.
It was on October 1, 1982 when the CD was put on sale in Japan. The first album recorded and released commercially on CD was Billy Joel's 52nd Street that was originally released three years ago. The following year, the new format began to conquer the world.
CD Mastering continued until last year when sales of digital downloads surpassed sales in physical format. Still, CDs are still produced today and be safe on the market for many years.

The Torrent Freak obtained copies of images from a presentation by an executive of the RIAA, the main lobbying organization of the American music industry, for people connected to major labels in the country.

Confidential data reveal that 65% of music consumed in the United States is obtained for free, but the vast majority of content comes to people in order offline via external hard drives, CDs burned on a home or pendrives acquaintances.

According to research from the industry, two thirds of all music consumed in the U.S. is obtained for free, while just under 30% of all such content is purchased on p2p sites or storage of files, like the late Megaupload.
