The title seems to indicate that some industry company software has been put to work and decided to create this new and useful plugin, but the reality is quite different. There has been no software development company that created it, but a car manufacturer, the popular Volkswagen. The plugin was created to promote the new technology "Start-Stop" which is premiering the German automaker known. The idea behind the technology is to save fuel by turning off the engine when the car stops, but do it for a few seconds.
Note that this is not the first time we see this kind of functionality, and was incorporated as a similar one in smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and of course his successor, the S IV.
Now you might ask: and how Chrome plugin knows when I'm looking at the screen or the other direction? Well, it's very easy actually. The plugin only requires use of webcam on our computer or laptop in conjunction with facial recognition technology. Pretty simple, right?
