Wolfenstein 3D : Playing Free on internet

Wolfenstein 3D

Wolfenstein 3D is a seminal first-person shooter game first released in 1992, pitting the player, a captured American spy, against a horde of WWII-era Nazis ensconced within Castle Wolfenstein. It is widely regarded by critics and game journalists as having helped popularize the genre on the PC, and having established the basic run-and-gun archetype for subsequent FPS games. It was created by id Software and published by Apogee Software. Released on May 5, 1992 for DOS, the game was inspired by the 1980s Muse Software computer games Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein.

To celebrate 20 years since its release, Bethesda Softworks’ website is hosting a browser-based version of the game for free. In addition there is an extensive director’s commentary available from John Carmack, co-founder of id Software, the game’s original developer.

“Wolfenstein 3D” is as classic as games come. It’s from an era where characters ate whole turkeys lying on the ground for health and you were trying to achieve a “high score.” It taught a generation of kids some basic German and some apocryphal tidbits about World War II. More importantly, it led to “Doom,” “Duke Nukem 3D” and countless 3D shooters afterward. The game is action packed and enables you to roam around the castle blasting anything that steps in your path with a variety of different weapons. You'll also encounter epic boss-battles and can search for hidden treasure !

The version of Wolfenstein 3D available for the iPhone and iPad features all six original episodes with over 60 levels. The menu has also been totally redesigned to make it more user-friendly, while a number of sound fixes have been resolved.
