A manufacturer of case for the iPad has been sanctioned by the government of Shanghai because they have contaminated a local river, reports the Financial Times. Dumping waste into the river by Riteng, Casetek subsidiary, has slowly contaminated water since it opened # 3 Songjiang factory two years ago. There are hardly any live fish in the river, and local farmers say they can not use their water to irrigate crops.

The latest incident took place a few weeks ago during the celebration of Chinese New Year, when some workers threw debris into the river, and the company has stated that this should not be the case and that was a mistake on their employees. Fengqiang Liu, one of the environmental leaders in the area, not quite agree with the version of events offered by the company and insists that the housing management is the real culprit of this.

It was requested that representatives of Riteng explain the case at a hearing next week, and no-shows, the local government has said it will have the worst punishment.

Apple has refused to comment on it, but has said yes Riteng iPad manufactures some parts, but have not opened my mouth for anything else. Surely in the coming days we will have more developments.
