The wheels you see in the picture below might seem part of some kind of Car tuneo set. The outside of the tire seems furrowed reddish or orange lines that give a pretty nice touch (depending on individual taste). But the thing is that the idea behind this design is quite practical because, in principle, are safer than other rims.
This does not mean that the paint used for tinting the wheel has some additional property that enhance adhesion is simply a visual control system may well have been implemented for decades. When you see the colored area starts to wear out and turns gray area means that the design of the wheel is worn and need replacing.
