Currently still using tapes to record data, but the trouble with them is that they deteriorate over time and become virtually useless after decades. For quartz comes to solve the problems.
Hitachi's people, working with researchers at Kyoto University have created a kind of storage unit semiperpetua from quartz, and it can preserve data for about 300 million years and that does not deteriorate over time as fast as the said tapes.
A single crystal having the storage capacity of a CD, but more layers may be added to increase it. The information is stored in binary form through layers of points.
The glass is highly durable and is not affected by great heat or cold, or chemicals and even endured a heat of 1000 degrees for 2 hours without any problems or damage information.
