After a long time researching, scientists from Yale University and the University of Santiago have developed a molecule capable of destroying the bacteria that cause cavities, and in only 60 seconds.
The molecule, called Keep 32 (as the complete human teeth has 32 teeth), has the ability to completely eradicate the bacteria Streptococcus mutans in only one minute and prevent development for several hours. The aforementioned bacteria is causing the origin and development of cavities.
According to plans, within 14 to 18 months and if approved, we will start seeing this new integrated chemical in toothpaste, candy and gum / chewing gum.
The major concern that arises is due to the fact that the Keep 32, being a chemical capable of killing bacteria, fits within the category of antibiotics, and if that is not 100% effective (which happens with many antibiotics), the bacterium Streptococcus mutans have the opportunity to develop resistance, which undoubtedly will make it much more dangerous than it already is.
