Keyboard Shortcuts for Mac : You Must Know !

To use a keyboard shortcut, or key combination, you press a modifier key with a character key. For example, pressing the Command key (the key with a symbol) and the "c" key at the same time copies whatever is currently selected (text, graphics, and so forth) into the Clipboard. This is also known as the Command-C key combination (or keyboard shortcut).
A modifier key is a part of many key combinations. A modifier key alters the way other keystrokes or mouse clicks are interpreted by Mac OS X. Modifier keys include: Command, Control, Option, Shift, Caps Lock, and the fn key (if your keyboard has a fn key).
Here are the modifier key symbols you can see in Mac OS X menus:
Command key icon (Command key) - On some Apple keyboards, this key also has an Apple logo (apple
logo)
Control key icon (Control key)
Option or Alt key icon (Option key) - "Alt" may also appear on this key
Shift icon (Shift key)
Caps lock icon (Caps Lock) - Toggles Caps Lock on or off
fn (Function key)

Startup keyboard shortcuts
Press the key or key combination until the expected function occurs/appears (for example, hold Option during startup until Startup Manager appears, or Shift until "Safe Boot" appears). Tip: If a startup function doesn't work and you use a third-party keyboard, connect an Apple keyboard and try again.

No click ! Computer Buying Tips 2012 : Labtop

Laptop computer buying tips & tricks for 2012

When choosing a new laptop to buy, you should be careful because there is a lot of cheap junk out there on the market. Follow these tips for buying a new laptop computer that should last at least two years or more.
  1. Make sure the laptop is an Intel dual core at the minimum.
  2. 2GB of ram (memory) minimum.
  3. A minimum of 500 GB hard drive. (And an external hard drive for backup).
  4. Inbuilt wireless adapter, and a Ethernet port.
  5. Make sure it has enough USB ports. Everything plugs in through USB now days.
  6. Inbuilt DVD burner.
  7. Firewire port to connect a video camera if necessary.
  8. A laptop carry bag for protection and to hold all the accessories.
  9. A wireless mini mouse.
  10. A year or more warranty.
  11. MAKE SURE the laptop is not display stock as they leave the power adapters plugged in and running 24-7.
  12. A very important consideration for any users that need to have a working laptop on the road or in the air. Verify when purchasing a portable computer how long the battery lasts. Be cautious, as many manufacturers will indicate a battery usage time but this may be at the lowest possible settings; ensure that the manufacturer clarifies what the standard battery usage life is when using the portable computer in all power modes.
Service is an important consideration to look at when looking to purchase a computer, new or used. The service is how many companies describe the repair of a computer if it or a component within it is to become broken. Below is a listing of what services to look for.
  1. Is the service onsite, meaning a technician will come to your location to replace or fix a bad component. If the service is onsite, is it for the complete time of the warranty?
  2. If onsite is not offered, what is and for how long?
  3. Can the computer be taken to a local service center? If yes, what is the closest authorized service center?
  4. What is the time frame the service takes to occur? For example, if the computer has a bad component, what is the time it will take for a technician to come onsite and replace that component, or what is the time it will take to have the computer sent in to be fixed? Finally, if that time frame is not accomplished, what is the company willing to do? Would they be willing to provide you with a loaned computer?
  5. Because the computer is a portable computer, is International Service available? This will allow users who may be in a different country to have their computer fixed in that country.

  • 10 Keyboard shortcuts : You must know ! (Windows)

Using keyboard shortcuts can greatly increase your productivity, reduce repetitive strain, and help keep you focused. For example, highlighting text with the keyboard and pressing Ctrl + C is much faster than taking your hand from the keyboard, highlighting the text using the mouse, clicking copy from the file menu, and then putting your hand back in place on the keyboard.

If you ever want to become a bit more productive on the computer, these 10 keyboard shortcuts are a must. Not having to move the mouse everytime you need to perform certain task can save time and frustration!  Try em, youll like em! (Windows only..sorry MAC peeps)

The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown : Moving the world off Internet Explorer 6

     http://i.imgur.com/TuRBu.png

10 years ago a browser was born.

Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2012, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye.
This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers.

    watch http://www.ie6death.com

Why move off of Internet Explorer 6?

There are many benefits of upgrading to a newer version of Internet Explorer – improved speed, tabbed browsing, and better privacy settings to name a few.
The web has changed significantly over the past 10 years. The browser has evolved to adapt to new web technologies, and the latest versions of Internet Explorer help protect you from new attacks and threats.
We recommend that Internet Explorer 6 users upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer for a safer browsing experience.
For a comparison between Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 9, see this chart.

    What about corporate users?

Some users report that they use Internet Explorer 6 because they have to for work. We understand that IT organizations may have unique considerations, so we’ve put together these resources to help:
    • Internet Explorer 8 Migration Workshop delivered by Microsoft Services and Microsoft Partners
    • Internet Explorer Springboard Series
    • Customer Case Studies

Microsoft is grazing on cake and guzzling champagne over in Redmond this week as Internet Explorer 6 usage in the US drops below one percent. The software giant launched its IE6 Countdown site in March last year to help accelerate the death of the aging browser. It appears to have worked in Austria, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and the United States, who all report less than one percent usage of IE6. Worldwide usage is at 7.7 percent, down from 12 percent at the launch of IE6 Countdown.
However, It's not clear if people are jumping ship to IE8 and IE9 or other rival browsers. Recent statistics suggest that overall Internet Explorer marketshare continues to decline, despite Microsoft's efforts. The slow death of Internet Explorer 6, originally made available in 2001, could be prompting consumers and businesses to look at alternatives, such as Firefox and Chrome, for their browsing needs. Microsoft isn't fazed though, with Internet Explorer 10 on the horizon. The firm sent out t-shirts and mugs this week to promote its IE6 Countdown site, demonstrating it's proud that IE6 is on its death bed.

MIT'sTetris : The Game on the Green Building

    http://www.bestcovery.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/7099738257_0b94fbbd15_b_610x970-188x300.jpg

We all know the students at MIT love a good hack, but what’s better than playing a game while doing it? Last night, a team took over the side of MIT’s Green Building and turned it into a giant, playable, multi-color Tetris game.

Looking up at the windows to the front of the 21-story MIT building - which is also known as the Green Building (named after its principal donor, Cecil Howard Green, and not because of any environmental ticks in the plus column) - it's not too difficult to understand why a Tetris hack has become central to the IHTFP hacking community. The windows are arranged in an 18 x 9 grid, not quite the 20 cells high and 10 cells wide that's become a display standard for the game but close enough.

The game started off by scrolling the word “Tetris,” and as the players moved on, the levels became progressively harder. The second level kicked off with more pale colors, while the third involved the colors shifting on-screen. Once someone lost the game, all of the blocks would fall to the bottom of the building.

Creativity if often overlooked for safety, and then people wonder why they didn’t hit a home run with their advertising or promotion. Sure, maybe it’s not the first of its kind, but it is creative. Think big, think creative, and people will talk. Just check out the cleverness for yourself. (Bonus: There’s a video beneath the videoshow.)

Angry Birds Amusement Park : Finland

    Angry Birds Land

The Angry Birds landed in Finland over the weekend, making the Särkänniemi Adventure Park the first official place to boast attractions based on the hit smartphone game by Rovio.

    http://i2.cdnds.net/12/18/618x412/gaming_angry_birds_theme_park_6.jpg

Angry Birds Land, the theme park that is entirely based upon Rovio's hit mobile game has officially opened its doors, according to Eurogamer. ABL is part of Finland's Särkänniemi Adventure Park. The park's designers have managed to create 12 different rides in total, plus an adventure course, all built around "Angry Birds." You also have food outlets, restrooms, and pretty much everything else you'd find in any amusement park. Which, again, is based entirely upon the hottest thing going on smartphones.

And now, Eurogamer reports, the Angry Birds Land theme park has opened in developer Rovio's home country, Finland. The family-friendly expansion to the Särkänniemi Adventure Park, which Rovio helped design, has a dozen rides, and, naturally, heavily Angry Birds-themed decor and food, plus game-playing stations and meandering mascots.
The game is, without doubt, an international sensation, but can a Finnish theme park really draw visitors from around the world with the promise of stamping out green piggies? Perhaps, in the end, it's not any sillier than designing a massive entertainment empire around a cartoon mouse and his companions. May they have much slingshot-powered success.

"The area is definitely a must see destination for millions of Angry Birds players, but also a great experience for those who are not yet familiar with the game."

Here we have footage from a visitor, newly posted on YouTube:

I wonder just how much staying power does Angry Birds have, and once the craze dies down (eventually, leaving only a few ‘cultists’, or should I say, die-hard fans left), will Angry Birds Land be turned into a museum instead ?

     Angry Birds Land

"The opening of Angry Birds Land in Särkänniemi is a really big deal for us”, said Särkänniemi boss Miikka Seppälä of the opening.
"The area is definitely a must-see destination for millions of players; but also a great experience for those who are not yet familiar with the theme."

Easy ! Flashfake Removal Tool for Mac : Remove in 3 ways

New release Flashfake Removal Tool For Mac

It is a family of malware that affects Mac OS X. The first versions of this type of threat were detected in September 2011. In March 2012 over 600 000 computers worldwide were infected by FlashBack.
The infected computers have been combined into a botnet, which enables cybercriminals to install additional malicious modules on them at will. One of these modules is known to generate fake search engine results, displaying false results for users and generating profits for cybercriminals via ‘click fraud’. It is quite possible that, in addition to intercepting search engine traffic, cybercriminals could upload other malicious modules to infected computers – e.g. for data theft or spam distribution.

While browsing the Internet, users may find themselves on an apparently legitimate website which has, however, been compromised or specially created by cybercriminals. The user is invited to install or update a new version of Flash Player. If the user agrees, FlashBack requests the admin password and is installed on the system.
Most of the March 2012 infections came from exploiting Java vulnerabilities. The authors of Flashback use numerous websites which, when accessed, automatically download and launch malicious files on the users computer. Read on to find out if your computer is at risk from this Java vulnerability.
Once the system has been infected, FlashBack runs automatically every time the computer is switched on.

What does the Flashback malware do?
According to F-secure, the malware known as a Trojan-Downloader, connects to a remote site and downloads a malicious payload. Once the trojan successfully downloads its payload it then infects the host computer and modifies targeted webpages displayed in the user's web browser. Some reports say the main purpose of the Flashback attack is to capture user login credentials and other personal information.
Other reports suggest that the infected machines may become part of a botnet that could potentially be tasked to carry out large-scale denial of service attacks or other tasks as desired by the botnet's master controller.

How do you know if you are infected?

When it is running, FlashBack tries to connect to 30 sites every day. One of those sites (randomly chosen) hosts the botnet’s command-and-control (C&C) server as deployed by the cybercriminals. Having established a connection, the malicious program passes the victim computer’s IP address and hardware UUID to the C&C.
Kaspersky Lab has discovered the operation algorithm of the malicious program, and created a dedicated server that imitates the C&C server that infected computers are supposed to connect to. For several days, this server registered all the infected computers that communicated with it, and recorded their UUIDs in a dedicated database. Thus, we can check if your computer’s UUID is in this database; if so, your computer was (and may still be) infected with FlashBack.

    Q:How to remove Flashback/Flashfake
