God of War: Ascension™

God of War is a series of action-adventure video games based on Greek mythology. The main trilogy—God of War I, II, & III—in the series were developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's Santa Monica division (PS2 and PS3), with Ready at Dawn Studios developing the PSP (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) and Javaground the mobile phone installment (Betrayal) respectively. Santa Monica is also currently in development of a new title for the PS3 (God of War: Ascension). In addition to the individual games, two collections featuring remasterings of both PS2 installments (by Bluepoint Games) and both PSP installments (by Ready At Dawn), respectively, have been released on the PS3.
Debuting in 2005, the series has featured on the PlayStation 2, mobile phone, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3. The character Kratos has been associated with merchandise including artwork, clothing, comic books, a novel, toys and cell phone skins.
The central character of the series is Kratos, a Spartan warrior eventually revealed to be a demigod. The success of the first game, God of War has allowed for the development of five additional games, with each chapter forming part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme. Each new installment provides additional information on Kratos' origins and relationship with his family and the gods. A convoluted series of attempts to free himself from the influence of the gods (and eventually the Titans) and exact revenge follow, with the series becoming darker in tone with each game.

God of War is an action-adventure video game for the PlayStation 2 first released by Sony Computer Entertainment's Santa Monica division in March 2005. It is the first installment in the God of War franchise.
Loosely based on Greek mythology, the game focuses on protagonist Kratos and is part of a saga (chronologically the third chapter in the God of War series) with vengeance as a central theme.
Kratos must stop the God of War, Ares, from destroying the city of Athens by finding the fabled Pandora's Box.
And here comes the (non-final) box art for "God of War: Ascension." Sony has yet to formally announce a new God of War game for PlayStation 3, but retailers and composers seem to be doing a fine job of making it known.

Based on cover art pulled from Amazon's servers, it seems the upcoming game has ditched the Roman numerals in favor of a succinct subtitle. Of course, the important number is the Greek one -- as in where will Kratos find the ancient gods to up his already extravagant body count? (Update: It looks like the game is a prequel, so there should be some hitherto unknown bodies to skewer.)

We'll let you know as soon as we learn more about God of War: Ascension.

My Comment
Unleash the power of the Gods and embark on a merciless quest as Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior driven to destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with lethal double chainblades, Kratos must carve through mythology's darkest creatures including Medusa, Cyclops, the Hydra and more, while solving intricate puzzles in breathtaking environments. Driven by pure revenge, nothing can stop Kratos from achieving absolution. [SCEA]
