Currently, quad-core processors are the best offers us the technology to integrate our smartphones, but Intel already has an eye on the future: the company expects that in 10 years the mobile processors can have up to 48 cores all working in parallel, allowing us to run applications and functions that would be unimaginable today.
Intel, in fact, already has a 48-core processor, and is a prototype which has been working since 2009. It seems that each core of this processor integrates a low-power Atom processor running at 1.6GHz, which gives us, theoretically, the equivalent of a 75GHz processor, and the most complex part comes when creating operating systems and applications need all that power. Even today, and talking at the level of the computers in the market is very difficult to find something that requires more than 6 cores running at once.
What we know is that Intel hopes that in 5-10 years these processors are within our phones and tablets. But what is also important is that it is expected that by then they find a way to get all the juice to power these processors offer us.
For technology, 10 years is plenty of time and can get to make amazing progress.
